The digitisation of education due to the pandemic has left parents ruffled as they are practising the fine art of balancing between online classes and screen time. However, this fine line can be managed with some simple, easy hacks at home. Initially, it will be frustrating as a parent but instead of yelling at the child, try to implement some of the hacks we have curated by the counselling department of one of the best schools in Ahmedabad.

1. Prepare a timetable
It may sound odd, but if you prepare a timetable for your child, you may be able to make out how many hours does your child spend on the screen. Allot a specific time for online games and try to stick to it. Don’t give into the child’s demands easily.

2. Check school homework daily
Your child gets enough homework and projects from school. Some of the best cbse schools in Ahmedabad provide homework regularly and parents should monitor their child’s school work. Check whether they have been submitted or not. Follow-up with the child to ensure that assignments are submitted on time.

3. Reading time
Make reading mandatory at home. It can be anything from the daily newspaper, kindle books, children’s magazines or any science fiction or adventure stories. You can also visit the school during the school hours and get the books issued from the school’s library. Zebar School provides Times NIE daily to each student. Check connecting millions and motivate your child to read it.

4. Cultivate hobbies in your child
Give them new books, paints, puzzles, crosswords to solve. If your child loves reading, encourage your child to buy new books to read. Follow your child’s favourite author and buy the newly launched books.

5. Board Games
Bring board games back at home. You can use Chess, Ludo, Carrom Board or Scrabble. Sit with your child and try to play at least twice a week.

6. Household chores
Assign your child simple household tasks like filling up water bottles, organising the room or watering the plants. Appreciate the child if the job is finished.

7. Weekends Special
Make each weekend special. Take them on long drives, sit with them and ensure that their classwork and homework are finished. Find out what they have accomplished in the week. Plan a family cooking session; children love baking. If not baking, you can teach them to make sandwiches and juices every weekend.

8. Stop mindless scrolling on your screen
Children lead by example. If you stop checking your social pages on weekends, children will get more attention and shall follow you. Never talk to a child while you are checking your phone; it gives them a negative signal. Always keep the phone aside and talk to your child.

9. Create bedtime rituals
Bedtime rituals are necessary as it helps the children to maintain a sleep cycle. Don’t allow children to play video games late at night. Make it a point to switch off the lights at 10 pm.

10. No Gadget Hour
Introduce your children to a ‘No Gadget Hour’ trend. It is a new trend catching up fast in Western countries. All you must do is fix a family time when no one touches the gadgets for that particular time. You can initially start with one hour daily in the evening and slowly move on to two hours. Appreciate and reward your child if they follow it. Make the reward exciting and creative for the child. It can be anything like ordering for an ice-cream treat or playing with them.

Patience is the key to changing habits in children. So keep patient and try these alternatives we have mentioned above in our blog. If, in any case, you don’t see any positive change in your child and you find that the child remains glued to the screen, then you can contact the school counsellor. Top CBSE schools in Ahmedabad provide personalised counselling services for the child. Get in touch with the counselling department and try to work out a solution today.

Coding Classes For Zebar Students Live, Instructor – Led Class, No Recorded Videos

The mission of the school is to nurture children and provide them with the best facilities as well as technologies so that they are ready to face the digital challenges. Coding is included in the curriculum of Zebar School since 2016. Computer classes are held every week to prepare the young children for the new language of the 21st century. Each child is given a dedicated computer – so that they can type directly on to the computer and see the results themselves. At times schools have 1:2 computers in labs- so two children share one computer. In that case usually the child who is tech savvy learns faster. At Zebar School since we have 1:1 ratio of student to computer children have better learning experience.

What is Coding?
Coding is a language used to communicate with computers. Code instructs the computer to take actions, and writing code is like preparing a particular set of instructions. These instructions can tell computers what to do or how they should behave so that actions can be taken in a faster manner. Knowledge of coding helps to create websites, apps and games.

Why should we teach coding to children?

Coding teaches logical reasoning and critical thinking and it helps children grow that faculty of brain. In normal life this ability helps students in many entrance exams and real world problem solving.

Coding right now is in high demand, and it provides a competitive benefit to our students. It helps young minds to understand the world in a better way. In addition to that, it is fun and satisfying. Coding not only improves creativity but also helps in enhancing problem solving, persistence, collaboration and communication.

Coding In Primary School

Scratch a visual programming language is introduced in primary school. Students create interactive stories, games and animations that can be shared online. It helps young people to think creatively, reason, organise and work in a team.

Some key features of Scratch are that it is easy to understand and learn. It creates interest in young child for programming. Instead of writing text or code, predefined blocks are snapped together to create the script. Scratch allows playful experimenting with program segments.

It is used by millions of people across the globe in various homes, schools, museums, libraries and community centres.

Coding in Middle School and Secondary School

In Middle and Secondary School, students learn languages that enhance their logical and reasoning skills, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Python

Python acts as a steppingstone into the world of programming. It is a general-purpose and high-level programming language that has been used by computer programmers for the last 30 years.

Advantages of teaching Python to students are the language is versatile and easy to learn.

Many automation, data mining and big data platforms rely on Python. It is the ideal language to learn for students at the age of 10- 13yrs and is the fastest-growing programming language in the world.

HTML- Students are also introduced to HTML(HyperText Mark-Up -Language) from class 8 onwards. HTML is the most popular languages across the Internet. Every webpage is built with the help of HTML. It is a base skill that every programmer learns.

Students in Zebar are trained to use HTML to design web pages and small websites. The syntax of HTML is straightforward to understand.

Artificial Intelligence

Zebar School has launched AI for grade 9 students. The curriculum has been designed to develop an understanding and appreciating Artificial Intelligence and its application in our lives. The school is also planning the integration of AI other subjects in all the classes to develop problem-solving and critical thinking capabilities in students.

AI is using Python programming language for the coding purpose. Students develop an understanding and working of Neural Networks. They are taught to identify and appreciate Artificial intelligence to describe its applications in daily life.

Computer programming is the future

The entire world is expanding at a swift pace, and coding is a highly useful skill. Many businesses depend entirely on computer code, not only the technology sector.

At Zebar we believe that a child who learns how to code shall have additional benefits in a career with more employment opportunities in the future, no matter what industry they choose be it in the IT Sector, hospitality, banking, retail or health sector. This is the main reason why coding is taught in Zebar.

Supporting Parents During Uncertainty

Zebar School is a leading school in Ahmedabad with students coming from all walks of life. Backed by Udgam consultancy the school has grown by leaps and bounds in a short time of four years.

It is coincidentally one of the most sought after schools for admissions too as many parents who come to Ahmedabad after a transfer or feel to change their child’s school inquire about Zebar. While some schools in the city offer a gamut of facilities, Zebar stands out for the flexibility and support it gives to its parent community.
Flexibility in terms of academics, students are given assistance be it in the form of worksheets, notes, practice question papers and videos. They receive guidance from teachers and extra classes in the form of doubt, solving sessions and remedial classes.
Due to this crisis in 2020, the school has given free access to Extramarks to each student. Apart from Extramarks, students received free access to Byju’s for two months, complimentary MS Office and digital library.
All these additional facilities give parents complete peace of mind as they don’t have to spend on other overheads like reference books, tuitions and online subscriptions during these testing times.
Parents are provided mental, emotional and financial assistance by the school management. The school counselling department provides mental and emotional support as parents of Zebar are entitled to free counselling and guidance services by the school. They can speak to the school counsellor or grievance redressal officer for any difficulty parents are facing while raising their child at home.
The school conducts free webinars of many varying topics like parenting, health, nutrition and career guidance for students and parents.
The management has come up with several new ideas to help parents and their families. The school is currently offering a monthly fee facility to all parents. Apart from this to further support the parents, the school accepted the Government Resolution and decreased the annual tuition fees by 25%.
Zebar School has also launched one of its kind campaign where parents can feel relieved and can continue their child’s education. The campaign ‘Support a Parent’ invites parents from financially sound backgrounds to sponsor the education of those students whose parents are facing liquidity issues.

This noble initiative by the school also caught the media’s attention. Let’s have a look at the online reports published by various media houses in the city.

The procedure to avail of benefits under this campaign is effortless. Parents need to share their child’s name with the class teachers. Names of the parents who can help or who need help will remain strictly confidential. Many parents have welcomed this initiative. It will give a lift to especially those parents who have incurred huge losses during this year or have spent a lot of money on medical expenses of their family members.

Top seven reasons why Zebar School gave access to Extramarks free to students.

Online teaching is the need of the hour. Currently, schools across the world are using this method to reach out to their students. Globally there are more than 1.2 billion children out of their classrooms. Zebar School is one of the first schools in Ahmedabad to shift to the online mode of teaching.

Online learning always consists of two types of learning synchronous and asynchronous learning. To give our students the best in this situation, the school has tied up with Extramarks to fill in the gaps of online learning.

Online classes are conducted daily, but sometimes students do not attend their classes primarily due to network issues at their place. Hence sometimes students miss their lectures. In such a scenario, Extramarks comes handy to the students to cope up with their missed sessions.

Zebar School has an exclusive tie-up with Extramarks and access to Extramarks learning solutions is free on the portal as well as the app. Students and parents have to download it on their mobiles, and they can view the content on their mobiles.

The standard charges of Extramarks subscription for an entire year are more than Rs 15,000/-. This year the school has given the access free to each child. The school has paid the charges of Extramarks for the academic year 2020-21.

The school recommends that students should ideally view Extramarks on their desktops or laptops. The other main benefit of using this learning app is that it provides visual content, practice material and using data analysis techniques it accesses the performance of each child. The app also has mapped the learning journey of the child, and a parent can easily find it out by watching the learning curve.

All the learning modules in Extramarks are engaging and animated representations of textbook concepts. It helps in clearing the concepts, and thus the child remembers the content for a long time.

The seven main reasons for free access to Extramarksare:

  • It follows a strict procedure which is called the 360-degree approach. The main steps of this approach are to learn, practice and then test. Any student who follows these steps can excel in his/her studies.
  • Extramarks helps to bridge the gaps between physical classrooms and virtual classrooms. Students can view the videos multiple times and revise their concepts. They also have mentors online who can answer the questions/doubts of the students. Special live classes are held in the evening and students can get in touch with mentors of Extra marks too.
  • Each student has been provided with an exclusive online planner in the schedule tab, which will help the child to plan his practice and adaptive tests at Extramarks.
  • Nowadays with hectic schedules, it becomes difficult for parents to keep a tab on their child’s education. Extramarks provides the facility of Add a parent. It would share the reports of the child exclusively with the parent; thus, the parent will be able to track his/her child’s progress.
  • Parents and students should use Extramarks as this year it is entirely free, and the child might not need any extra tutor or help from an outside agency.
  • There are several question papers available on Extramarks so you should motivate your child to attempt all the questions. It also has NCERT textbook solutions and HOTS section.
  • Teachers of Zebar School use Extramarks videos in their online classes. Homework is also given to students for practice and revision from Extramarks.

There would be a time when the wait would be over, and the schools would physically reopen. Till that day, Zebar School would want their students to continue their learning journey with the teachers of Zebar and Extramarks.

If you face any issues in accessing your child’s Extramarks account parents can contact Extramarks helpline or school IT department.

We strive to provide your child with the best available resources in the industry. Let us all walk hand in hand and ensure that our students enjoy their virtual learning phase with Zebar School.

The challenges they faced are multifarious: engaging students, bringing out of the box ideas to make their classes enjoyable and completing the syllabus on time. Let’s hear what our parent community has to say about Zebar Teachers on  Teachers Day 2020.
